Former State Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Hon. Kabbyanga Godfrey, has called upon medical graduates to formalize their professional standing by registering with the Ministry of Health to ensure they are eligible for government employment.
Hon. Kabbyanga made these remarks while presiding over the 7th graduation ceremony at Kagando Institute of Health Sciences in Kisinga town council, kasese district. A total of 506 graduates were awarded certificates and diplomas in various medical disciplines, including nursing, midwifery, and laboratory technologies.
During his address, Hon. Kabbyanga emphasized the importance of being “job-ready” within the government framework. He urged the graduates not to delay their registration, noting that being part of the Ministry of Health database is a prerequisite for enrollment as civil servants.
Hon. Kabbyanga specifically appreciated church-based organizations for supplementing government efforts in providing quality education and healthcare services. However, he challenged the clergy to expand their mission beyond spiritual nourishment. He urged priests to actively preach against poverty and laziness, encouraging their congregations to embrace hard work and economic transformation.
The Bishop of South Rwenzori Diocese, Rt. Rev. Nason Baluku, reaffirmed the Church’s commitment to developing the education sector. He noted that the diocese would continue to invest in institutions that empower the youth with practical skills.
The ceremony was filled with emotion as graduates shared the challenges and triumphs of their academic journeys. several graduates encouraged those still in school not to give up despite the rigorous nature of medical training.
Parents in attendance expressed immense pride, detailing the sacrifices made to ensure their children completed their studies.
Kagando Institute of Health Sciences remains one of the oldest and most reputable training institutions in Kasese district. According to the institute’s administration, there are ongoing plans and applications to elevate the facility to a university status, a move that would further bolster the healthcare workforce in Western Uganda and the country as a whole.
