The National Resistance Movement (NRM) leadership in Kasese District has postponed celebrations that had been planned to honor the appointments of Hon. Dr. Crispus Walter Kiyonga and Gen. Wilson Mbasu Mbadi to the national cabinet, citing concerns over the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the country.

Recently, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni appointed Hon. Dr. Crispus Walter Kiyonga, Member of Parliament for Bukonzo West, as Second Deputy Prime Minister in charge of Government Business. The President also appointed Gen. Wilson Mbasu Mbadi as Minister of Trade and Commerce.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with our reporter at Rwenzori Square this morning, the NRM Central Division Chairperson, Gideon Black Masereka, said the party had resolved to postpone the celebrations until the country is declared free from the Ebola threat.

He urged members of the public to strictly adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health to help contain the spread of the disease.

Meanwhile, NRM supporters, including Anna Kimagyenda and Josephine Mukwenda, commended President Museveni for appointing leaders from Kasese District to key government positions.

The duo expressed optimism that the appointments would enhance service delivery and development in the district.

They also called upon the newly appointed ministers to lobby for projects that directly improve the livelihoods of the people of Kasese.

The women further appealed to the government to increase funding for women’s groups, noting that many women actively supported President Museveni during the election campaigns.
