KASESE- The streets of Kasese Municipality were painted in a sea of faith and devotion as thousands of Catholic faithful and well-wishers participated in a massive pre-Uganda Martyrs Day walk. The event, held as a precursor to the national celebrations on June 3rd, 2026, served as a powerful activation and publicity tool for the Diocese of Kasese, which has the prestigious honor of animating this year’s celebration at the Namugongo Catholic Shrine.
The march, which snaked through the heart of Kasese town, was characterized by hymns, prayers, and a vibrant display of Catholic identity. While the event drew participants from all walks of life, it was notably dominated by women, whose presence and energy underscored the backbone of the local church.
Beyond its spiritual significance, the walk was designed to create awareness and mobilize the community for the upcoming pilgrimage. As the official animators for the 2026 celebrations, the Diocese of Kasese is expected to lead the liturgy, choir, and logistical coordination at Namugongo—a responsibility that requires both spiritual and physical preparation.
While presiding over the event, Rt. Rev. Francis Aquirinus Kibira Kambale, the Bishop of the Diocese of Kasese, expressed his gratitude to the Christians for their overwhelming turn-out and enthusiasm. He assured the public that the preparations for the June 3rd celebrations are progressing smoothly.
In a heartwarming display of inclusivity, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) were given special consideration during the march. Organizers ensured that the route and pace accommodated their needs, highlighting the church’s commitment to “leaving no one behind.”
Thamwanza Mark – the Councilor for PWDs at Nyamwamba Division, lauded the diocese for this recognition and participation of PWDs in this match and other activities at the diocese.
Government and local leaders also joined the faithful, emphasizing the intersection of faith and community development. Biira Margaret- Kasese Municipality Labour Officer, spoke on the spiritual impact of the day’s activities.
As the countdown to June 3rd continues, the Diocese of Kasese remains a hive of activity, with the pre-celebration walk having successfully ignited a flame of anticipation among the faithful in the Rwenzori region.
