KASESE – In a significant ceremony held at St. Stephen’s in Nyamwamba, Kasese Municipality, and His Grace Dr. Bwambale Christopher has been officially installed as the new Archbishop of the Western Uganda and Eastern DRC Archdiocese of the Worldwide Anglican Church.
The function was presided over by the Patriarch Christopher Lwanga, the Archbishop of the Worldwide Anglican Church, who traveled to Kasese to officiate the installation.
Addressing a large congregation of faithful, Patriarch Lwanga delivered a stern message regarding the church’s mission, placing a particular emphasis on addressing rising moral concerns, specifically citing the issue of homosexuality within the country’s prison system.
He announced that the church has appointed a dedicated Bishop of Prisons to spearhead initiatives to combat these challenges.
Patriarch Lwanga charged the newly installed Archbishop, Dr. Bwambale Christopher, with the mandate to strengthen the church’s presence and expand its influence across the Western Uganda and Eastern DRC region.
In his acceptance address, Archbishop Dr. Bwambale Christopher vowed to uphold the church’s teachings, committing to spreading the Gospel both within and outside prison walls. He emphasized a commitment to rehabilitation, stating that the church would work closely with ex-prisoners to help them abandon practices contrary to the church’s doctrine.
Supporting this stance, Rev. Bakengana Roset, the Diocesan Secretary, issued a serious call to leaders at all levels of society to intervene and provide oversight regarding the situation in prisons.
The ceremony was marked by several other milestones for the archdiocese. In addition to the installation of Archbishop Dr. Bwambale, the event celebrated the graduation of 60 students who received certificates and diplomas in Theology. The service also included the ordination of four evangelists and two deacons, alongside the installation of a new dean.
The Western Uganda and Eastern DRC Archdiocese currently oversees eight dioceses spanning 39 districts. The Worldwide Anglican Church, which was founded in 1921, has established a significant global footprint, now operating in 64 countries with a network of 200 bishops.
