Kasese municipality authorities have begun implementing a new trade order aimed at restoring order and sanity in the town, officials announced on Tuesday.
Under the program, municipal crews will demolish illegal structures and relocate containers and kiosks that are obstructing roads, pedestrian walkways and designated public spaces. The operation is part of a broader effort to tidy up trading areas and improve access and safety for residents and visitors.
Bamanyisa Geoffrey, town clerk of Kasese municipality said all the concerned parties have been alerted about this activity. He further urged traders and property owners to comply with the directive or else the long arm of the law will catch them.
Mayor Chance Kahindo appealed for calm and cooperation, saying the initiative is not a matter of politics but of implementing government policy for the betterment of this town.
Security agencies will support the operation. SP Nelson Tumusiime, spokesperson for Rwenzori East Police, assured the public that police and sister agencies will be available to enforce the law and maintain order during the exercise.
Municipal officials said the removals and relocations are being coordinated to minimize disruption and to provide guidance to affected traders on lawful alternatives and designated trading zones. The municipality has also warned that structures erected without proper permits or that block access to essential services will be targeted first.
Traders and residents were encouraged to seek information from municipal offices about relocation plans and any available support or notice periods. Authorities said continued community cooperation will be critical to the success of the program and to ensuring public safety and an orderly trading environment in Kasese.
