Obusinga bwa Rwenzururu has declared four days of official mourning following the death of Hon. Kibaba Lodric Ngangasi, who died yesterday at the age of 46. Family members said he succumbed to complications from hepatitis B and ulcers.
A special sitting of the Rwenzururu Kingdom Council was convened at Kibaba’s home in Kiharimu Kyaminyoku, Kasese Municipality in honour of him. The session was presided over by Hon. Nzaghare Noah, Speaker of the kingdom council.
He asked the public always seek medical check ups for non-communicable diseases as early as they exeperience strange synptoms on their bodies so that they start treatment as early as possible.
Kibaba Lodric had served as Deputy Minister of Culture in the kingdom for at least three years. In a statement honoring his service, the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Baritazale Kule Benson, said the kingdom will observe a four-day period of mourning to pay tribute to his contributions.
During the sitting, several ministers and kingdom officials spoke of Kibaba as a devoted leader who placed culture and the interests of his kingdom above personal concerns and worked proactively for the development of the kingdom.
Rev. Ezra Mukonzo, Minister of Religious Affairs for the kingdom, urged mourners to refrain from mixing cultural practices with witchcraft, condemning what he described as “satanic acts” that some mistakenly associate with the kingdom’s traditions.
Kibaba’s death has shocked many in the community. He is survived by 11 children and is also remembered for his work as a teacher in addition to his ministerial duties. He was laid to rest in Mbunga Sub-county, Kasese District.
