
KASESE- Rwenzori East police have assured the public of heightened security ahead of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony scheduled for 12 May 2026.
SSP Alex Muhumuza, deputy regional police commander for Rwenzori East, said all border points in Kasese District have been secured and are under close surveillance to ensure a smooth and safe environment during this national event. Muhumuza urged residents to remain calm and to cooperate with security personnel deployed across the region.
Meanwhile, SP Hassan Hiwumbire, divisional police commander for Kasese, said it was necessary for the police authorities to organize end of year celebration for the junior officers as one way of dealing with mental health that has become rampant in the police force.
He further indicated that police is working so hard in making sure that the swearing-in ceremony for the president isn’t interfered with.
He appreciated the top leadership of Uganda police led by IGP Abas Byakagaba for having imrproved on the welfare of police officers across the country. He therefore asked junior officers in the force to work hard towards service delivery.
At the end-of- financial year police function at Uhuru-50 gardens in kasese municipality, Kabiriri Henry, assistant resident district commissioner for Kasese, addressed senior officers and urged them to pay attention to the mental well-being of junior officers and to support strong family relationships for better service delivery.
Kabiriri also commended the region’s community policing model, which he credited with contributing to a decline in crime across Kasese.
He further called on police to continue strengthening its relationship with the public so that they are always provided with authentic information that can help them execute their investigations and other duties as required.
Naswibu Musenene – general secretary for Uganda Muslim supreme council kasese chapter appreciated the good relationship the police has always had with the Muslim community in kasese and asked all Muslims living in kasese to work towards maintaining this relationship that has produced fruits.
According to the Uganda Police’s 2025 crime report, the Rwenzori East police region — which covers Kasese District — ranked fourth in the country in crime reduction statistics, a performance local officials say reflects the impact of closer community engagement and targeted policing efforts.
