The Inspectorate of Government has called on residents of Kasese District to take personal responsibility in the fight against corruption to promote accountability and good governance.
The call was made during a two-day engagement with various stakeholders held at Kasese Multipurpose Hall on 4th November 2026, where participants were urged not to tolerate different forms of corruption, including absenteeism, ghost workers and inflated government contracts, among others.
Speaking to the media, the Regional Head of the Inspectorate of Government, Ivan Magala, said citizens should take ownership of government projects by monitoring their implementation and reporting suspected corrupt practices to relevant authorities for appropriate action.
Magala also cautioned the public against allowing challenges such as poverty, fear, weak supervision and socio-economic pressures to drive them into participating in corrupt practices.
Meanwhile, the Kasese District LC5 Chairperson, Eliphazi Muhindi Bukombi, urged residents not to remain silent when their money or resources are misappropriated, saying reporting individuals involved in corruption is an important step towards fighting the vice.
On her part, Christine Lamellae, the Assistant Director of Advocacy and Capacity Building at the Inspectorate of Government, encouraged citizens to utilise existing leadership and accountability structures to strengthen the fight against corruption.
